My Brush Collection: ~ Wipe Wipe Away ~

My dears,

the time has finally come: I made time to publish a long scheduled blog post!! I am terribly sorry for my prolonged absence but believe me, please, my life is crazy busy and if I have to decide between reading your posts or writing a post - I surely decide for your updates most of the time!!

Tonight, I'd like to share my brush collection with you. They are my go-to helpers for every day use but they feel extremely decadent as well :-) The nicest thing is that I own most of those brushes for a long time and can ensure you that they last almost forever!

Alima Pure:

Maybe my mostly used tool of all times: the #25 foundation brush - a wonderfully reliable part of my morning routine which helps me to get an easy (and environmentally-friendly) start to the day :) I can't wait to get more products by this brand. What I know so far is sensational! The company uses only the best natural ingredients that work wonders on my skin and they never test on animals. I am indeed grateful for their truly considerate approach which is so rare these days...

If you ever read my blog you know that I am all over this brand!! The brushes are no exception: those little fairy helpers come in beautiful arty zip bags and look as good as new no matter how often I use them. They are expensive but well worth the extra costs as they are the most beautiful tools I've seen and I never go look for replacements :) My darlings are called: large shader 003, face contour 012, eye liner 008, crease 011.

Benefit:

Benefit brushes really do the trick and are pretty all-rounders. You can tell from how many I've got! Even though their range is not as bis as Mac, for example, I think they picked the best shapes for most occasions. This concepts works well for me at least... My choices: concealer brush, fantail brush, foundation brush, fluff shadow brush (awesome!), shadow liner brush, slant powder brush.

A word of warning! The angled liner shadow brush hurts on the sensitive lash line! The soft focus shadow brush is divine, though, and the funky rock'n roll brush is too hot to be true - love it :-)

this brand is not very widely-known but it is a high-quality company that I like a lot. Dianne's style is awesome and a little kinky, too ;) I've got the eye-liner/lip brush (which I use for lips only - I love it as it is bigger than most other lip pencils which can make my lip line look too harsh), the small foundation precision brush, as well as the smoky eye liner brush.

MAC:

I am not the biggest MAC fan as they use harsh chemicals in their products (even though they work extremely well because of that - that's why I still got plenty of MAC products for special occasions, like going out etc..). The brushes are insanely good, though! I happen to use those two the most often and think that they never got copied quite as well by other brands: the 219 pencil brush and the 214 short shader brush.

I store my brushes in a washable case with a lid to protect my brushes from dust. How do you store your make-up utensils?

All the best to you,
I love you all!
ur Sam xx

Silk Aether Long-Lasting Cream Eye Shadows by Rouge Bunny Rouge & Benefit Creaseless Cream Eye-Shadows/Liners

Dear readers,

how are you doing today? I am soaking up every sunray that touches my skin and in my opinion this season could last forever!

This week-end I received an enchanted package by Nadin who promotes my favorite high-end make-up brand Rouge Bunny Rouge. She kindly sent me two shades, namely atlas swallowtail (no. 56) and brocade skipper (no. 57), of the new Silk Aether long-lasting cream eye shadows to try along with a beautiful letter regarding the latest beauty news: RBR is going to launch a new look next month!
btw: My neat b&w agenda on the right helps to open up the letter in style ;-)

Needless to say, I wore these cream eye-shadows for the last couple of days and this is how they look like:

on the left side: atlas swallowtail (no. 56) is described on the webpage as: "Satin wash of nude taupe with pewter reflections; buildable to darker, more opaque and metallic greyish hue of the same colour" which also is a very precise statement. I tried how buildable the colours were by putting on a small layer first and after drying "topping it up" for a slightly more dramatic look. The layers melted together despite the time that elapsed between the applications.

on the left side: brocade skipper (no. 57) is described on the webpage as: "Satin wash of blush champagne cream; buildable to darker, more opaque and metallic hue of the same colour" which I would totally agree upon. It gives the eye-lid a subtle note and can be used as a base shadow or for women that prefer a very natural "just there" look for an enhanced glowing effect.

my thoughts:
The cream-eye shadows are really smooth and fool-proof to apply. These shades are excellent for women who are aiming at putting emphasis on their appearance and radiance rather than conspicuous make-up colours and looks. I think this is a motto that runs through the entire RBR range. You can't overdo(se) on any shade as they act as a natural enhancement of the female moods and shapes as opposed to wearing a mask. This is what I love about this brand beside not being an organic brand which is the only wish I still have that comes into my mind. My skin is coping with every single product extremely well, though, and the formula contains many rare natural goodies as well.

If, however, you are looking for more colourful options I am recommending the nostalgic-looking Benefit creaseless cream shadows/liners. You can have a quick look at them in this post, too. My favourites are skinny jeans, strut, stiletto, and birthday suit. The cream eye-shadows work very well when you put them on with the talent brush by Benefit but you gotta be careful to close the lit very carefully after each use or they dry out for good... this is not an organic brand, too, of course. So, I think I would switch completely to RBR if they released equivalent shades in their Silk Aether section.

Please stay tuned for my next post this week as I am holding a GiveAWay just for you, guys, while I am AWay doing a trip through ever-beautiful France :-)

Do you prefer cream eye-shadows or powder eye-shadows? Please tell me as I am curious to know!!

Much love,
ur Sam xx

Rouge Bunny Rouge Eye Pencils - Devotion Ink Quartz Eyeliner & Feline Gaze Eye Kohl

Hello lovelies,

how has your week been so far?! I'm having a pretty rough time as I need to take exams until April (!!) and I am already ready for making off to the Bahamas!!
My week-end got a lot brighter, though, when I found the Rouge Bunny Rouge Devotion Ink Quartz Eyeliner - tiger eye essence and the new blue shade vera from the Feline Gaze Eye Kohl pencils in my mail for review! Thank you, Nadin from RBR :-)

To be honest with you, I am extremely clueless on how to achieve a Brigitte Bardot cat eye using a liquid eye liner... I am desperate to try, though! I am used to kohl pencils (well, my so-called method of choice is to smudge them until they look 'sassy' on groomed days and 'grunge' on most other days...)

As you can see, my little garden fairy loves them as much as I do ~

(I know that my little cutie has quite an issue with her wings. She keeps abandoning them each time I try to glue'em back on her. So, I decided to just leave her be...)

Vera is a beautiful shade, perfect for Autumn and Winter months! This looks like Arabian nights to me! The describtion states: "A creamy frosted blue-violet iris with a coal-dust colour base", which I would absolutely agree with. The kohl pencil is actually longer lasting than the liquid eye liner but both are not fading throughout the day (I tested it without using a base).

The colour of the tiger eye essence is just like it is described on the web-page: "Dilute black ink base, lavished with 24 carat gold and polished copper, for an overall bursting with glitter, black-bronze holographic effect." Perfect!! It gives your outfit an oriental glam touch, too, I would say. The tip is pretty solid and doesn't slip off the lash line, so even a beginner like me can work with that, lol! Because it was still morning, I only did a very fine line but you see - it's possible to do so - you can always build up on that for night time.
On another note:

This is what I was cooking myself last night - veggies with salmon, spices, lemon juice, and lemon balm. It takes about 15 mins to make but it is really yummy and healthy! What foods do you like to prepare for yourselves? I really ignored cooking for the longest time and can't wait to finally get started! Do you have any suggestions?!
Are you guys tuning up for the changing of the seasons, too?!
Much love always, Sam xx

Rouge Bunny Rouge - Glide Concealer vs. Luminous Skin Wand (& Outfit)

Hello my dears,

it took me a little longer to create this post because I tried to do another video but it turned out so badly that I figured for days whether to put it up or leave it! As I had taken no pictures to substitute the purpose of the video I decided to include it after all... you don't know what I'm talking about? How could you :)

So, I better start from the beginning:

I was kindly sent the newest release by Rouge Bunny Rouge, the 'Naked Disguise' Glide Concealer crayon (shade: thalia). As I already own the standard concealer, the 'Fine-Spun Light' Luminous Skin Wand (shade: orionis; see previous post), I decided to compare the two with each other.

Here's what they look like:

As you can read on the official RBR web-page, the Luminous Skin Wand has by far more active ingredients than the crayon and I must say that there is a lot of paraffin in the Glide Concealer (see ingredients' list on Zuneta). The Luminous Skin Wand is, of course, more creamy in texture than the stick but neither of them leave me with a dry feeling or settle into my wrinkles. I hate it how bad concealers make wrinkles even more visible! I think the crayon is a little faster to apply because you can just dot in onto the skin, whereas, when using the Luminous Skin Wand, you have to push out the concealer first and then apply it with the brush end (as you do with the Touche Eclat by Ives Saint Laurent).

Trial phase:

I put both concealers to a test and applied one under the right eye and the other one under the left eye in the morning and waited till late at night to compare the two. That being said, when I came home after a long day at university and having one glass of champagne with my friends (we celebrated the results of our theses in a café/bar/restaurant on a Monday night, lol), both concealers had faded almost entirely. I would've definitely needed a touch-up during the day!! The shadows under my eyes showed through like crazy: you can see that in the video, I look like I've been robbing a bank or some other draining activity like that... At least I could show that they came off without leaving any nasty residues. To me this is crucial: I don't wanna feel and look masked by any "beauty" products.

So, this video shows the dreadful late-night test result, beware:

Conclusion:
I would say that the Glide Concealer crayon is good for traveling and for actually doing those quick'n easy touch-ups I should've been doing (!!) and it's definitely more suitable for buildable coverage.
The Luminous Skin Wand is the better choice for every-day treatment and concealing as it has a lot of nourishing components and is very light-weight.

Last note on my outfit:

This is what I wore on Monday - it was sunny but windy and a little chilly outside. I'm definitely preparing for Autumn already :( Sorry for the weird pose, I couldn't quite squeeze into my photo booth!!

Jacket - Dunlop (one of my best friends gave this to me. The jacket has a lot of details, very nice! She got it from a model wear sale where they sell the runway clothes very cheaply. It was such a great surprise present!)
Shirt - Mustang (a Christmas gift from my dad - well done, daddy!)
Jeans - Killah (this pair has been "customized": I removed the big Killah logo because I loath looking like a moving advertisement and one fine day I decided that I have too many blue jeans (am I nuts?!), so I dyed 'em black. Now they're my blue/black no-logo "Killah" jeans...)
Shoes - Jumelles (no story, just bought them :) lol)

What do you think of the concealers, would you prefer one over the other? Do you have days when you tell yourself: "bad hair, bad brows, bad everything!" and is it intimidating to you when people watch you doing touch-ups in public? Have you ever felt like turning your outfits into something completely new?!

Great to hear from you,
Sam xx

P.S.: I included the option of answering questions via Formspring. Hope to see you there, too!!

Rouge Bunny Rouge - Aqua Primer & Face Powder

Hi guys,

as y'all know, I am a huge Rouge Bunny Rouge addict! So much, indeed, that my blog caught the attention by the lovely Nadin who is RBR's PR manager. She sent me the Prelude In The Clouds - Aqua Primer and the Precious Velvet - Flawless Face Powder in piano forte (which I've already presented in my video). I tried these products for 2 weeks to give a proper opinion on them. To make known that I got these items officially for review purposes I'm gonna add some press pictures with permission further down.

This is my pic:

Aqua Primer:

The Aqua Primer is a sheer water-based primer that makes it possible for all skin types to make the best out of their face make-up. I have combination skin that is acne-prone and highly sensitive but after wearing the primer for two weeks straight my skin actually feels nourished and at ease. Two pumps are enough to cover the entire face. On days where I just wanna apply concealer on certain areas I even use only one pump. The liquid settles into skin in no time, my morning routine doesn't take any longer even though I am applying more with that extra step.

This is what the press kit says about the ingredients:
"Sea-Buckthorn Berry Extract serves as a superb-antioxidant and anti-ageing ingredient that promotes cell tissue regeneration. Iris Florentina Root Extract smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles to create a perfect canvas for other products to be applied to the skin. Saccharide Isomerate provides intensive hydration, firming and smoothing; Bisabolol is used for its anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory capabilities. Vitamin E Acetate and Retinol Palmitate improve skin texture."

I typed the Inci list into www.codecheck.info, where you can find every ingredient.
So, for me the Aqua Primer is a big hit cause it's hard for me to find a product that keeps the balance between sufficient care and oil prevention. Plus, all face products really stay put for longer even in summer time :)

Flawless Face Powder:

I don't need to stress that all RBR products are beautifully packaged - the powder line was even improved to make it look absolutely divine! The box is now flat which gives it that sophisticated look and the sponge is of better quality than it used to be (I've got a bronzer and a highlighting powder in the older version).
I adore the consistency of the powder, I need to check whether at all I applied anything on my face because it blends in very seamlessly at once and gives me a natural finish with medium coverage (my summer freckles still show but not my occasional redness). I don't break out on the powder at all, too. Please keep in mind that my skin tone is rather fair, for darker skin types I would recommend using a bronzer as face powder substitution.

Here is what the press kit says about the consistency and contents:
"An advanced micronisation process guarantees a combination of a velvety and creamy texture for ultimate comfort, perfect adherence, smoothness and an even finish. Innovative ingredients include Papaya Fruit Extract as a natural “face lift” and skin softener, plus Hyssop Extract with soothing properties. Rice Powder imparts a perfectly natural, non-shiny finish."

The full ingredients list can be viewed on codecheck.info. There are small amounts of substances in there that can cause allergic reaction, so please read before purchasing! I never experienced any problems with any of the RBR powders but it's always advisable to see for yourself.

What do you think of the fact that companies send products to bloggers? What's your opinion on this??

Love, Sam xxx

Quick Morning Make-Up

Hello dear readers,

I uploaded a video on my easy morning make-up whenever I'm in a hurry. I am so sorry for the bad quality of the recording (my photo booth's gone mad) and, for some reason, my face looks humongous in the video, argh!! Plus, I'm still acting like a retard, I need A LOT of practice - I adore you people for making such great videos!!

Products I used were:
Clinique - Cream shaper for eyes (16 mink)
Rouge Bunny Rouge - Luminous skin wand (orionis)
Rouge Bunny Rouge - Flawless face powder (piano forte) - sent to me by RBR for trial
Rouge Bunny Rouge - Original skin blush (36 orpheline)
MAC - Tinted lip conditioner SPF 15 (gentle coral)
Avène - Thermal water

How do you feel seeing yourself on the computer screen??! Do you experience strange bloated face days from time to time or is it just me?!

Peace,
ur Sam xx

From Sophisticated to Bohemian... in no time!

Dear readers,

as much as I love to talk about make-up, fashion, and all things beautiful - sometimes I can't be bothered to spend all that much time doing my make-up routine. I remember one day in particular, when I had 2 hrs to have pictures taken in an old building looking as neat as possible and immediately after dancing on a roof top during sunset appearing all free and watching the world go by... I had no time to redo my make-up whatsoever, so I had a little thought beforehand on which cosmetic products might be working for both settings. Once applied, I could forget about "my face" and just focus on everything else...

So, which make-up style has a jolie and a gypsy in common?! I came up with this idea:

I used the Clarins Truly Matte Foundation (shade 02- pale ivory) and the Express Compact Foundation (shade 02- porcelain beige) and dotted some liquid blush from the Rouge Bunny Rouge Decadent Duo (color: enredo) on my cheeks. The gloss of the duo (color: samba) went on my lips, of course. For my eyes, I put on the gorgeous shimmering mauve mineral Overshadow by The Balm (shade: If you're rich, I'm single) all over the lid and into the crease. I lined and smudged my eyes with my favorite Benefit kohl pencil (color: sable). I knew that it was supposed to be a hot day and this kohl pencil could smear up in humid weather, so I let the liner dry a little and then put it on a second time before smudging it with the sponge tip. Please note that this pencil is discontinued. They got exchanged with the Benefit automatic liner duo pencils. I tested them when they first came out and I thought they were awful! They did not go evenly on my lash line and when I tried to smudge them they were gone immediately because their texture was way too creamy! So, I stocked up on the older ones before they disappeared :) To finish my look I put on 2 coats of the Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara (in black). Et voilà!

This is kinda what it looked like in the end...

The clothes you see:
gyspy
couture - Chacok (skirt/dress), Aubade (top)
jolie couture - Aubade (top), H&M (jacket), leggings- no idea which brand!

I had a fun day thanks to the awesome photographer Andrea Lavezzaro!

Are you surprised sometimes by how easy it is to change your outward appearance? What tells you more about a person? Their dress-code, or their behavior?
I have the feeling that everyone ultimately judges others by their words and actions but it takes a little while until we get a clear picture... in the meanwhile, we have no choice other than to "look" at each other... in the internet world this might be particularly hard but I'm eager to make a contribution to keep it a personal and fun place to hang out.

Arriving ~ The Reason why I became a blogger - A RBR eye make-up query!

Welcome dear ladies,

I am so excited that lovely Tali of The Gloss Gloss mentioned my gypsy blog in one of her recent posts! Seriously, she is the reason why I started blogging in the first place...
This little tale goes like this:

A while ago I threw out most of my make-up collection because I was sick of finding tons of unloved make-up and skin "care" products in every corner. I realized that my skin is far too sensitive to cope with the amount of chemicals I was putting on my face on a daily basis. Ugh!

The brands, however, I could not say good-bye to were:

- Benefit
- Rouge Bunny Rouge
- Dianne Brill
- Mac
- Becca
- Bare Minerals
- The Balm
- some Clarins, Clinique, Biotherm, and Avène

I'm gonna post reviews of these brands in upcoming posts...

Ok, so after everything else went straight into the garbage bags I realized that I actually did not get along well with my RBR eyeshadows 'When Birds Are Singing...' (I've got 7 of them!!) and my 2 RBR 'Smithereens of Stars' eye-glosses. I had been using all the crappy eye-shadows each day and now that I got only my "favorite" products left - I had no clue how to make them work!!

As RBR meanwhile seemed to have disappeared from the European market there was no sales assistant available that I could ask how to prevent my eye-products from settling into my crease. My only hope was to google the brand... and what I found was a you tube video recorded by Tali discussing her RBR haul (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtNjp318W5M). From her I learned that zuneta.com still carries the line and there was absolutely no hope for pimping the eye glosses. Great, this information could've saved me A LOT of money early on!! What I do to calm me down is that I still use'em on my brows and the inner corners of my eyes where the sticky gel consistency cannot do much harm... Tali had absolutely no problem with the shadows, though, which made me wonder what I did wrong (I did not have an account to ask questions at this stage). Still bothered by the lack of eye-color variety on my lids I continued to surf the world wide web, ultimately signing up for blogger.com because it was so interesting to read Tali's reviews and opinions daily. Later on I took a look around who else was there. I found these beautiful fairy eyes by Replica on her Visionary Beauty blog (http://visionarybeauty.blogspot.com/2010/05/deep-smoky-green-eotd-from-rouge-bunny.html). I was so stunned by her enchanting deep smokey eye that I asked her how she did this! She answered that she used eye-primer. Unfortunately, I avoid those items because they are full of silicons and preservatives, both of which my eyes have bad reactions to when heavily applied (for example, I need to use contact lens solution without preservatives, otherwise my eyes turn instantly red!). From now on, I'm taking Replica's alternate suggestion and either put on some powder or nude eye-shadow as a base. It really helped me big time! So, thank you all for helping me out so much and for getting me hooked on this beautiful cause of sharing ideas and little wisdoms xxx

These are my 7 + 2 little sinners...

So far I learned that the shadows can get wet without losing its smooth consistency and that indeed the powders have a creamy feel to them once applied - no messing on my cheeks whatsoever... with an eye-primer, this surely is a perfect product! If you ask me, don't care at all about the eye-glosses :( (please note that the eye-gloss tubes show the earlier first version, the new design can be seen here: http://www.rougebunnyrouge.com/cms/smithereens-of-stars/)

My ultimate question is: What are your eye-shadow secrets? Do you change your application routine depending on whether it's hot/humid or cold/dry? Do you throw out your expired make-up regularly?

A huge thank you for noticing that I'm around, you guys are great!!
Cheers, ur Sam xx

My Rouge Bunny Rouge Reviews on Zuneta

Hey darls,

I wrote two product reviews on www.zuneta.com, which is an online beauty boutique that, in my eyes, really stands out. The people at Zuneta ship samples of their items literally all over the world to please their customers and answer to every question. In general, I have the feeling that they try to make the internet as 'homey' feeling as possible, an idea that I completely share. They have a beauty clinic that gives logged in users advice on colors and formulations that match their individual needs. What I also find very useful are the beauty blogs in which many people guest blog and give their honest opinion on the products they've tried. I particularly took advantage of Zuneta TV. Here, make-up artists are giving directions on how to use their products in the best way possible and they are concerned that women of every ethnicity get useful information. (I would recommend that you have a look on youtube.com for 'ZunetaBeauty' as there are loads of videos you can't find on the Zuneta page) Because of this and their excellent product range I decided to support their beauty cause.
I came across this web-page because I was looking for new items on a brand called Rouge Bunny Rouge. It is a fairly newcomer brand that unfortunately did not succeed amongst the giant make-up brands in some European countries. Therefore, it is very hard to get hands on their products. Zuneta is the only online boutique that ships RBR worldwide.
My order included the tinted moisturizer 'Sketches on Water' and the bronzing powder 'As if it Were Summer Still...'. As you can see the products have very playful names, which are based on the brand theme. In their imagination a Victorian princess is creating an enchanting garden. Each product reflects a part of this magical world and has a flower design pattern that represents an active plant ingredient. RBR tries to combine natural ingredients alongside the well-known substances that are used in ordinary make-up. To me, this is the best compromise for the time being as all natural cosmetic products just don't do the job for me. I have very problem-prone skin and often this shows on my face. The science around pure organic make-up is not advanced well enough, yet, to cover up all the imperfections that I've got. In skin-care I rely on organic formulation only but during the day this compromise is the best I can do. I was bugging a very friendly Global PR & Marketing Manager of RBR and she reassured me that they put far less substances of concern (like silicons) into their formulation than the big brands (most of them belonging to the giant L'oreal anyway...).

You can find the product reviews here:

As if it were summer still...:
http://www.zuneta.com/review/product/list/id/1227/

Sketches on water:
http://www.zuneta.com/review/product/list/id/1299/category/84/

Also, on the RBR facebook page one of my reviews was featured!
http://www.facebook.com/#!/rougebunnyrouge

To end this post I show you a picture of the RBR items that I've got. Definitely, there's more reviews on this brand to come! If you are interested in any product in particular I can write a review just for you! What are your opinions on alternatives to the big stores and brands?! Do you know Zuneta or RBR and what do you think of their appearance?

Much love from gypsy land xxx
